Feet-Together Center Swings: the model golfer in position

Feet-Together Center Swings

A narrow stance exposes head and body drift, so the swing has to turn around a center.

Use this if

Your head drifts or bobs; works under a covered bay.

The fault

The head drifts back with a sway, or dips and lifts coming down.

Steps

  1. Stand with your feet together, ball centered, short iron
  2. Make half swings at about 60%, staying balanced
  3. Keep your head inside its starting zone until after contact
  4. Then let it turn with your chest to the finish
  5. Build to three-quarter swings, then hit 5 normal swings

Turn around a quiet head

Reps

10 half swings feet together, 5 three-quarter, then 5 normal-stance swings

Why it works

With the feet together any slide or lunge throws you off balance, so the body has to rotate around a steady center with the head quiet. Works under a covered bay, indoors or on a gray day.

You need

Club, ball

At home

No-ball rehearsals work anywhere. Sunny-day variant: put a spare ball on your head's shadow and keep the shadow near it.
