Hip-Stick Turn: Back
Turn your hips around a steady center instead of sliding them off the ball.
Backswing Turn
Use this if
You want to see whether your hips turn or slide.
The fault
The hips slide toward the trail foot instead of turning, or barely turn at all.
Steps
- Slide an alignment stick through your front belt loops; cross your arms
- Turn back until the trail end of the stick points behind you
- Keep your belt buckle over the same spot; no slide to the trail foot
- A full turn you can control, not a bigger one
- Make 5 slow turns, then hit 5 balls with the same feel
Turn the stick, don't slide it
Reps
3 x 5 slow turns with the stick, then 5 balls at 70%
Why it works
A stick across the front of the hips makes pelvis rotation visible: a turn swings the stick to an angle, a slide just shifts it sideways. Seeing the difference helps you feel turning around a center, which also keeps the low point steadier.
You need
Alignment stick, club, ball
At home
Works anywhere without a ball. Aim for the right amount of turn for you; flexible players should not chase a bigger number.
