Stick Outside the Trail Foot
An upright stick at the outside edge of the trail foot flags any slide as you turn back.
Backswing Turn
Use this if
You slide off the ball going back and want a range barrier.
The fault
The trail hip slides outside the trail foot on the backswing (sway).
Steps
- Stand a stick upright at the outside edge of your trail foot
- Make slow backswings: bumping the stick means you slid
- Turn the trail pocket back and behind you instead
- Don't tip toward the target to avoid it; stay centered
- Hit half shots, then full swings, stick staying in place
Turn the pocket back; leave the stick alone
Reps
5 slow rehearsals, then 3 x 5 balls from half to full swings
Why it works
A barrier at the outside edge of the trail foot only gets bumped by a real slide, so the way back is to rotate the hip behind you and load the trail heel. The pelvis stays centered, which tends to keep the low point in one place.
You need
Alignment stick, club, ball
At home
Stand the stick in your bag, a range bucket or the turf. At home, a door frame beside the trail foot works for no-ball rehearsals.
