Load the Trail Heel: the model golfer in position

Load the Trail Heel

Move pressure into the inside of the trail heel going back, so you don't reverse pivot.

Use this if

Your weight drifts toward the target going back.

The fault

Reverse pivot: weight drifts toward the target going back, then falls back through impact.

Steps

  1. Address with pressure even, heel to toe
  2. As the club starts back, move pressure into the inside of the trail heel
  3. Trail knee keeps its flex; trail toes could almost lift
  4. As the arms finish going back, let pressure start toward the lead foot
  5. Slow rehearsals, then 10 balls at 70%

Trail heel early, then start forward

Reps

5 slow rehearsals, then 2 x 5 balls at 70%

Why it works

Getting pressure into the inside of the trail heel early in the takeaway gives the hips something to turn into. From there pressure can start back toward the lead side as the arms finish, instead of being stuck forward at the top.

You need

Club, ball

At home

No-ball rehearsals work anywhere; feel the trail toes get light.
