Towel Whip: the model golfer in position

Towel Whip

Swing a towel like a club to learn to let it fall at the top, then turn and snap.

Use this if

You throw the club from the top; good at home.

The fault

Rushing down from the top with the hands and throwing away the wrist angle early.

Steps

  1. Hold one end of a golf towel like a grip; knot the far end
  2. Swing it to the top and let it fall onto your back
  3. Start down by turning the hips toward the target
  4. Let the towel snap just past where the ball would be
  5. Hit balls with the same let-it-fall feel

Let it fall, then turn and snap

Reps

10 towel swings, then 5 balls; repeat twice

Why it works

A towel only snaps if you let it fall behind you and turn first; throw it from the top and it goes limp. That gives instant feedback on a rushed change of direction.

You need

Towel

At home

Ideal at home: no club or ball needed. A knot in the far end adds weight and a louder snap.
