Chair Hip-Hug (Home): the model golfer in position

Chair Hip-Hug (Home)

Indoor no-ball version: seat on a chair or wall from setup through impact.

PostureFollow-Through Turn
5 min · Home · Starter

Use this if

You stand up through impact and are practicing at home.

The fault

Early extension: the hips push toward the ball and you stand up before impact.

Steps

  1. Set a chair behind you so your seat just touches it at address
  2. Make slow swings to waist height, trail glute on the chair going back
  3. Coming down, move the lead glute back to the chair by impact
  4. Build to three-quarter swings at half speed, no ball

Hug the chair through impact

Reps

3 x 10 slow swings, no ball

Why it works

A solid surface behind you gives instant feedback: if the seat leaves it on the way down, the pelvis moved toward the ball. Slow reps let you groove the trail-then-lead glute contact without a ball.

You need

Chair, club

At home

Range version: Glutes on the Line (a stick or your bag behind you). A wall works instead of a chair; stand a few inches off it.
