Trail Hip Back, Make Room
Deepen the trail hip as you turn so the arms have room to drop in front.
PostureBackswing Turn
Use this if
Your hips crowd the ball and the arms have no room.
The fault
The hips turn by pushing toward the ball, leaving no room for the arms on the way down.
Steps
- Lay a stick on the ground just behind your heels, parallel to the target line
- Turn back and feel your trail back pocket move away from the ball
- Hold that depth at the top
- Start down and let the arms drop into the space
- Hit balls at 70%, seat staying behind the stick line
Trail pocket back, arms drop in
Reps
3 x 5 rehearsals to the top and down to hip height, then 10 balls at 70%
Why it works
Feeling the trail back pocket move back, away from the ball, as the hips turn keeps the pelvis deep. On the way down there is then space for the arms to drop in front instead of the hips thrusting forward.
