Lower It With the Trail Arm
Lower the club with the trail arm, not the wrists, so the hinge lasts into delivery.
Wrist ActionKinetic Sequence
Use this if
You cast from the top: fat or weak contact.
The fault
Casting: the wrists throw the club from the top, so it bottoms out behind the ball.
Steps
- Swing to the top and stop for a second
- Keep both wrists set so the angle between lead arm and shaft stays put
- Straighten the trail arm to lower handle and club together to hip height
- At hip height check the shaft is about level, not pointing at the ball, then turn through to a small finish
- Add a ball with half swings, then three-quarter swings
Trail arm lowers the club; wrists stay set
Reps
5 slow rehearsals stopping at hip height, then 10 half-swing balls at about 60%
Why it works
Straightening the trail arm lowers the handle and club head together, so the wrist hinge can survive into delivery. The body turn, not the wrists, then brings the hands to the ball.
You need
Club, ball
At home
No ball needed for the rehearsals; works in a living room with a short iron if the ceiling allows.
