L-to-L Half Swings: the model golfer in position

L-to-L Half Swings

Half swings that set an L going back and rebuild it through, to train hinge and release.

Use this if

Your hinge and release feel unclear.

The fault

No clear hinge going back, or a release that comes too early or barely happens.

Steps

  1. Set up with a wedge or 9-iron
  2. Swing back until the lead arm is level and the shaft points straight up
  3. Turn through, letting the wrists unhinge at the bottom
  4. Finish with the trail arm level and the shaft pointing straight up again
  5. Listen for the swish at the bottom, not before

L back, L through

Reps

3 x 10 swings with a wedge, then 10 balls at the same length

Why it works

A short swing with a set L going back (lead arm level, shaft up) and a rebuilt L going through (trail arm level, shaft up) makes the hinge and release the whole job, while the body still drives the small turn.

You need

Club, ball

At home

Ball optional; a wedge into a mat or the turf works at home if space allows.
