Use this if

Your arms start the downswing with no push from the ground.

The fault

Starting down with the arms and shoulders, with no push from the ground.

Steps

  1. Stand on your lead leg and feel your weight
  2. Bend the lead knee slightly and feel heavier: that's pressure
  3. Swing to the top; make that small squat your first move down
  4. Push up off the ball of the lead foot as the club comes through
  5. Slow rehearsals first, then build speed

Get heavy on the lead leg first

Reps

5 slow rehearsals, 5 at half speed, then 10 balls

Why it works

A small flex of the lead knee as the first move down adds pressure into the ground, and pushing up out of it through impact is one way good players use the ground. Rehearsing it slowly teaches the order before the speed.

You need

Club, ball

At home

The slow rehearsals work at home without a ball.
