Roll-Back Takeaway
A second ball rolled straight back gives you a repeatable, unhurried takeaway.
ConsistencySmoothness
Use this if
Your takeaway snatches or whips inside.
The fault
A fast or inside takeaway that starts the swing differently every time.
Steps
- Set a second ball about 4 in behind the clubhead, on the target line
- Start back by pushing that ball straight away from the target
- Keep it smooth; if it curls inside, reset and go again
- Finish the backswing and swing through the front ball
Push the back ball straight away, unhurried
Reps
5 roll-back rehearsals, then 10 balls; reset the back ball each time
Why it works
The back ball only rolls straight if the first move is smooth, low and along the line, so the start of the swing gets the same every time. Speed then comes on the way down, where it belongs.
You need
Ball, club
At home
Indoors, use a foam ball or a headcover behind the clubhead and rehearse without hitting.
