Two-Stick Setup Routine
Two sticks and the same routine every ball, so your setup stops drifting.
Consistency
Use this if
Your aim and ball position change from ball to ball.
The fault
Setting up a little differently every ball: aim, ball position and stance drift.
Steps
- Lay one stick along your toe line, parallel to the target line
- Lay a second stick at a right angle, pointing at the ball position
- Routine: from behind the ball pick a spot, step in, two looks, go
- Hit 10 balls with the same club and the same routine
- Finish with 10 same-club, same-effort rhythm swings (7-iron)
Same routine, same setup, every ball
Reps
2 sets of 10 balls with the full routine, then 10 same-club, same-effort rhythm swings
Why it works
Research suggests setup and alignment vary more between skill levels than the body's swing motion itself. Fixing your feet line and ball position with sticks, and running one routine, can reduce a big source of swing-to-swing change.
You need
Alignment stick, club, ball
At home
Two clubs on the ground work if you don't have sticks.
