Use this if

You try to kill it and the top feels jerky.

The fault

Trying to kill it: a yank from the top and a lunge at the ball.

Steps

  1. Pick a short target well inside your normal distance, mid iron
  2. Make a full-length backswing at about 30% effort
  3. Let the club float and change direction softly at the top
  4. Let it build speed on the way down; don't fly the target
  5. After 5 balls, go to 50% with the same feel

Full length, 30% effort, soft at the top

Reps

10 balls at 30%, then 5 at 50%

Why it works

At low effort you can feel the club's weight, so the change of direction becomes a gentle swing-and-fall instead of a yank. Most players find that smooth shape survives when they add speed back in steps.

At home

No-ball rehearsals work at home. At the range, pick a short target well inside your normal distance so there is no reason to swing hard.
