Waist-High Shift and Turn: the model golfer in position

Waist-High Shift and Turn

Rehearse just the impact move from waist high: shift forward, turn, extend.

Follow-throughBody Turn
10 min · Range · Intermediate

Use this if

You hang back and bottom out behind the ball.

The fault

Hanging back: the body stays over the trail side and the club bottoms out behind the ball.

Steps

  1. Start with the club at waist high, shaft parallel to the ground
  2. Shift your shirt buttons and hips toward the lead side
  3. Turn hips and chest a little open as the club comes down
  4. Extend the arms through, chest covering the ball
  5. Hit 10 small shots, then add a full backswing

Shift, turn, extend

Reps

2 x 10 waist-high shots, then 5 full swings

Why it works

Starting from waist high removes the backswing, so you rehearse only the move through the ball: pressure onto the lead foot, hips and chest turning open, arms extending. The club then tends to bottom out ahead of the ball.
